Stephen Lumsden Stephen Lumsden
 Managing Director

Following his time as a chorister at New College, Oxford and subsequently at the Guildhall School of Music in London where he studied bassoon, piano and conducting, Stephen Lumsden entered artist management, becoming a Director of Basil Douglas Ltd. He founded Intermusica in 1981 with a desire to create an agency with a highly creative and personal approach to the representation of leading artists as well as young talents.  After more than 25 years in business, Intermusica now employs 27 people and Lumsden's priority is to direct the creative efforts of the Company's experienced and talented management team across all areas of its operation.  The  Tours & Projects Department has flourished since its creation in the late 80's, while the Vocal and Opera Department - launched in 2005 - now represents over thirty singers.  Another innovation was taking on the representation of composers, reflecting Lumsden's passion to be involved in the creation of repertoire, not just its performance.  Intermusica also runs extensive projects, for example founding the Southbank Centre's flagship chamber series, the International Chamber Music Season, and the creation of the British Season at the world-famous Concertgebouw Hall in Amsterdam in 2003/2004, one of the biggest festivals of its kind ever mounted.  He has been Deputy Chairman of the British Association of Concert Agents and the International Artist Managers Association, and was closely involved in the metamorphosis of one to the other.  He was also a Board Member of the European Association of Concert Agents.  He has an active interest in other art forms and is a participant in a number of sports including golf, skiing and tennis.  He has four daughters.
