Born and educated in Wales, Sarah-Jane is a graduate of the Royal College of Music and now studies with Lilian Watson. She was a member of the ENO Young Singers Programme and, following her success in the 2006 Welsh Singer's Competition, she represented Wales in the 2007 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.
Her opera experience includes Pamina and 1st Lady The Magic Flute; Romilda Xerxes; Angel Jephtha; Crobyle in Massenet's Thaïs at the Barbican in concert; and Dunyasha in Prokofiev's War and Peace for the BBC Proms; all with English National Opera. Other roles include Contess Le Nozze di Figaro and Fiordiligi Cosi fan Tutte for Garsington Opera; Agrippina for London Handel Festival; Pamina Die Zauberflöte and Miss Jessel The Turn of the Screw for Benjamin Britten International Opera School, RCM; and Contess Le Nozze di Figaro for British Youth Opera, at Queen Elizabeth Hall.
Sarah-Jane's various concert appearances include Mendelssohn Elijah; Mozart Exsultate Jubilate and Requiem; Handel Messiah; Brahms Requiem; Bach Magnificat; recitals at Aldeburgh and Brecon with Morriston Orpheus Male Voice Choir; at Eton College with the London Welsh Male Voice Choir; and a St David's Day concert attended by HRH Prince Andrew. In 2006 Sarah-Jane made her Edinburgh International Festival debut as 5th Maid Elektra and has also featured in a number of broadcasts on BBC Radio 3.
Her many prizes and awards include the 2003 London Young Welsh Singer of the Year; and the 2003 MOSCA Young Welsh Singer of the Year. At the RCM, she was awarded the 2003 Cuthbert Smith Prize; the 2002 Vivian Prins and Wienberger Awards; and the Sybil Tutton Award MBF.
Recent engagements have included Fiordiligi Cosi Fan Tutte at Opera Holland Park, Countess The Marriage of Figaro, Servilia La Clemenza di Tito and Pamina The Magic Flute for English National Opera; Belinda, Dido and Aeneas with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at Edinburgh International Festival, Vivaldi Gloria with Kings College Choir and Academy of Ancient Music at the Royal Albert Hall and recitals at St David’s Hall, Cardiff and in London.
Future engagements include Micaela Carmen for Welsh National Opera, Grand Priestess Aida for ENO, Elijah with the Huddersfield Choral Society and in Leeds Town Hall, Strauss Four Last Songs in Brecon, Wales.
