Claire de Sévigné

Soprano

  • Coloratura soprano Claire de Sévigné has firmly established herself as one of the most exciting artists of her generation. As a member of the ensemble of the Grand Théâtre de Genève for the 2018/19 season, de Sévigné will perform the roles of Sacerdotessa Aida, Phani Les Indes galantes, Blondchen Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Clorinda La Cenerentola and L’Ange Saint-François d’Assise. This season she will also return to Opernhaus Zürich for Fiakermilli Arabella.

  • Previously named one of CBC’s Top 30 Canadian Classical Musicians under 30, recently highlights for de Sévigné include Blonde Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Opernhaus Zürich, the Canadian Opera Company and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Queen of the Night Die Zauberflöte with the Opera Theater of St. Louis, and Fiakermilli Arabella with the Canadian Opera Company.


    As a member of the studio at the Opernhaus Zürich between 2015 and 2017, de Sévigné performed the roles of Hermione in Manfred Trojahn Orest, Feu, Princesse and Rossignol L’enfant et les sortilèges, and Angelica Orlando Paladino. Prior to this, she was a member of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio where roles here included Despina Così fan tutti, First Niece Peter Grimes, Ida Die Fledermaus and Servilia La clemenza di Tito. During this period, she also performed the role of Die Modestin Der Rosenkavalier as part of the Young Singer Academy at the Salzburg Festival.


    Equally in demand on the concert platform, recent highlights for de Sévigné include her debut with Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam as Vierge in Honegger Jeanne d’Arc au Bucher, Le Grand Macabre with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester and Alan Gilbert, Messiah with Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa and Toronto Symphony Orchestra, a concert tour of China with the Salzburg YSP in collaboration with Hantang International Music Festival, Messiah with the Edmonton Symphony, Previn Honey and Rue with the Niagara Symphony, and Mozart C Minor Mass with the Niagara Chorus.


    De Sévigné was nominated for a JUNO award for Classical Album of the Year for her Naxos album of Vivaldi Cantatas. She was a semi-finalist at the Operalia Competition in 2016 and is supported by the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation, SSHRC Bombardier Master’s Research Grant, and the Canadian Opera Volunteer Committee. She holds a Master's Degree from the University of Toronto.
