This season Hotea returns to Royal Opera House as Ernesto in a new production of Don Pasquale as well as making his debut in Munich at the Bayerische Staatsoper as Ferrando in Così fan tutte. Audiences in Tokyo can see Hotea as Rinuccio Gianni Schicchi during the Spring Festival Tokyo Opera Nomori. Other engagements include his first Arturo I Puritani at Deutsche Oper am Rhein where he also performs Tonio in La Fille du régiment. In Wiesbaden where Hotea is a member of the ensemble, he performs Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier, Des Grieux Manon and Nemorino L’elisir d’amore.
Recent performances include Almaviva Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Staatsoper Stuttgart, Opera National de Rhin, Wiener Staatsoper, Greek National Opera and Choregies d’Orange; Nemorino L'elisir d'amore at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Elvino La Sonnambula at Oper Frankfurt; Ernesto Don Pasquale at Oper Zurich, Staatsoper Stuttgart and Deutsche Oper am Rhein; Des Grieux Manon at Greek National Opera; Cassio Otello at Opera de Monte-Carlo; and Tebaldo I Capuleti ed i Montecchi at Opera National de Paris. In Wiesebaden his roles included Dex Grieux, Ernesto, Alfredo La Traviata, Ferrando Così fan tutte, Nemorino L'elisir d'amore, Duca Rigoletto, Don Ottavio Don Giovanni and Tamino Die Zauberflöte.
Born in Baia Mare, Romania, Hotea is a graduate of the Bucharest Music Academy. He made his professional debut at the age of 21 as Nemorino and was immediately engaged as a soloist of the Romanian National Opera of Bucharest where his roles included Alfredo, Almaviva and Don Ottavio. A prize winner in several competitions he was also awarded the Grand Prize of the International Contest Hariclea Darclée in 2015. He currently resides in Frankfurt.
