Acclaimed Romanian Soprano Iulia Maria Dan is currently a member of the ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden where this season she makes debuts as Madame Cortese Il viaggio a Reims, Mařenka The Bartered Bride and Antonia Les Contes d’Hoffmann. Further appearances include Contessa Le nozze di Figaro, Fiordiligi Cosi Fan Tutte, Violetta La Traviata, and Tatiana Eugene Onegin. Future guest engagements include two major Mozart roles at the Salzburg Mozartwoche and at Versailles together with Mark Minkowski.
Last season Dan’s roles in Dresden included Countess, Micaela Carmen, Mimi and Musetta La Bohème; Gretel Hansen and Gretel; a role debut as Donna Elvira Don Giovanni and as Violetta La Traviata as well as a new production of Platee under the stage direction of Rolando Villazon.
A member of the of Staatsoper Hamburg ensemble between 2015-2017, she was heard there as Helena A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Agathe Der Freischütz, Mimì La Bohème, Tatyana Eugene Onegin, Freia Das Rheingold, Countess Le nozze di Figaro, First Lady Die Zauberlföte, Mathilde Guillaume Tell, Rosalinde Die Fledermaus and Fiodiligi Cosi fan tutte. Prior to this, Dan was a member of the ensemble of the Bayerische Staatsoper where she began as a member of their prestigious Opernstudio.
Guest operatic highlights include a hugely acclaimed debut at the Verbier Festival as Aminta Il re pastore, her debut in the title role of Massenet Manon at Oper Graz, Ofelia in Franco Faccio's Amleto at the Bregenz Festival, her house debut with Opera Australia as Mimi La Bohème, the premiere of Francesca da Rimini at the Münchner Opernfestspiele, and Gilda Rigoletto for Romanian National Opera.
A graduate of the National University of Music in Bucharest, Dan is a recipient of many prizes and awards at competitions such as Most Promising Young Artist at the Hans Gabor Belvedere International Singing Competition where she was also awarded the Graz Opera Special Prize and the Soroptimist Prize, the Hariclea Darclee International Singing Competition, and the Ionel Perlea National Song Competition.
