Rachael Wilson

Mezzo-soprano

  • Lauded for her formidable stage presence and generous, ample voice, American mezzo-soprano Rachael Wilson joined Bayerische Staatsoper immediately upon her graduation from Julliard, first in their studio and then the ensemble, where she is currently a company member. Still in her 20s, Wilson has made a series of notable debuts on the Munich stage such as Hänsel Hänsel und Gretel, Dorabella Cosi Fan Tutte and Fatima in a new production of Oberon for which she was awarded the prestigious Munich Festspiel Preis.

Shortly after she was invited by RTE National Symphony Orchestra to perform Elgar’s Sea Pictures. She made her Carnegie Hall debut as the mezzo soloist in Vivaldi's Gloria, as well as her Philadelphia Kimmel Center debut in Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle with Ken Noda and Cecile Licad. She has performed on numerous occasions in Alice Tully Hall: with Steve Blier's New York Festival of Song; in the role of Disinganno in Handel’s Il Trionfo del tempo e del Disinganno with Juilliard 415, conducted by William Christie; and with works such as Bach’s Magnificat. Further highlights include Mozart's Requiem with the Weill Cornell Medical College’s Music and Medicine Initiative; Bach's Cantata 170 with violinist Monica Huggett and Juilliard 415; and Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël with the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New York.

An avid performer of song and chamber works, Wilson frequently performs in recital, most recently at the Munich Philharmonie and Bayerische Staatsoper. She is inspired by collaborations with instrumentalists and has attended the world-renowned chamber music programme at the Marlboro Music festival, directed by Richard Goode and Mitsuko Uchida.
