Gabrieli Consort & Players

Baroque, Chamber, Choir

  • Gabrieli are world-renowned interpreters of great vocal and instrumental repertoire spanning from the renaissance to the present day. Formed as an early music ensemble by Paul McCreesh in 1982, over their thirty year history the group’s repertoire has vastly expanded to cover major works of the oratorio tradition, virtuosic a cappella programmes from across the centuries and mould-breaking reconstructions of music for historical events.


    Intermusica works with the Gabrieli Consort & Players on international touring including a recent performance at the Festival de Pâques in Aix-en-Provence and plans for a forthcoming tour in Asia.

  • Gabrieli are acclaimed interpreters of Handel oratorios and Bach Passions and their recordings have garnered numerous international awards, including those from Gramophone, BBC Music Magazine and a Grammy nomination in 2010 for the a cappella disc A Spotless Rose.

    Pioneering residencies and partnerships mark the Gabrieli out from other ensembles. The group has worked in Leipzig in a high-profile collaboration with the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, been a previous resident artist at Brinkburn Music in Northumberland for over seventeen years, associate artists at the Wratislavia Cantans Festival for six years and most recently embarked on a partnership with Historic Royal Palaces in the UK, with performances at Hampton Court Palace and Kensington Palace.

Intermusica tours the Gabrieli Consort & Players with conductor Paul McCreesh to Festival de Pâques in Aix en Provence for a special Good Friday performance of Bach St Matthew Passion

Always performed in Paul McCreesh’s distinctive one-to-a-part formation, soloists on this occasion include Nicholas Mulroy as Evangelist, Mhairi Lawson, Tim Mead, Marcus Farnsworth, Helen Jane Howells, Helen Charlston, David Stout and Thomas Walker.

The concert is broadcast live on Radio Classique.
